Throughout time the Maasai have remained proud and faithful to their culture. Maasai do not have art and literature: to be a Maasai is their culture. Their education consists of teaching their young how to be a Maasai and how to continue their unique heritage and ways of life. Elders have fought fiercely for the protection of the traditional ways of life, and for this reason, much remains intact to this day. Traditionally a nomadic tribal folk, the Maasai herd cattle across the savannah grasslands of Maasai land - a vast territory that stretches across central African plains of both Kenya and Tanzania. To the Maasai, wealth is expressed in terms of the number of cattle in their herd -and the number of children in their family.
